São Francisco is a village located in the municipality of Cidade da Praia, on the island of Santiago. Situated in an area that combines urban and rural elements, it offers a varied landscape including residential areas, green spaces, and cultivated areas. This area is renowned for its strong sense of community and is home to the Ekonatura community space, a micro-community enterprise managing the Recycling Ecocenter, promoting sustainability activities and environmental awareness.
Ekonatura is a community recycling center established under the Raiz Azul project, contributing to sustainable waste management and environmental well-being. Coordination is overseen by Mrs. Edita Magileviciute and the Association for the Development of São Francisco, led by Mr. João Ferreira.
Last Saturday, São Francisco was highlighted due to a significant event at the Ekonatura community space, known for its activities focused on sustainability and environmental preservation. The recent activity at Ekonatura included various educational and cultural initiatives, emphasizing environmental awareness and community integration.
On June 1st, Ekonatura celebrated Children's Day and Environment Day, where several awards were presented to children in the community for their plastic waste separation efforts. Subsequently, awards were given to students from the Â鶹ÊÓƵ for their creativity in creating posters on climate change and plastic pollution. ECOCV recognized the creative work of students Anete Martins and Rosilene Silva, third-year students in the Communication Sciences program, as part of the Creation Workshop course. The Ecocenter of São Francisco organized a range of activities for the occasion, including children's performances and dance shows, a presentation by the batucadeiras of Agostinho Alves, and concluded with a snack for the community children.
